These videos are available to registered customers at www.brookfieldengineering.com under "Support/Video Clips." They are available 24/7 so customers can view them when they have a question or as their schedule allows!
The videos were created by the same training professionals who provide Brookfield's popular "Practical Course" classes. The eight brief clips demonstrate the basic operations required to set up and run a standard Brookfield viscometer.

The New RS Portable Rheometer... Maximum Mobility from the Lab to the Field!
Middleboro, MA - Brookfield Engineering celebrates its 75th Anniversary with the introduction of the New RS Portable Rheometer. This Coaxial Cylinder Rheometer can operate in the lab, on the production floor (115 or 230 volts) or in the field (with a rechargeable battery). The built-in battery pack is recharged by simply plugging the instrument into a power receptacle.
The RS Portable comes with a heavy duty lab stand. It also has a convenient handle for easily moving the instrument whenever necessary. The rugged design is ideal for use by multiple operators.

The Falling Ball Viscometer...
... a Simple, Precise Solution to Measuring Newtonian Fluids.
Middleboro, MA - Brookfield Engineering celebrates its 75th Anniversary by introducing the new Falling Ball Viscometer, an instrument that provides dynamic viscosity measurement of transparent Newtonian fluids.
The Falling Ball Viscometer utilizes the simple but precise Höppler principle to measure viscosity. The basic concept is to measure the elapsed time required for the ball to fall under gravity through a sample-filled tube inclined at an angle. The tube is mounted on a pivot bearing which quickly allows rotation of the tube 180 degrees, thereby allowing a repeat test to run immediately. Three measurements are taken and the average time is converted into a final viscosity value in centipoise.
The Falling Ball Viscometer is used for quality control in various industries as well as in academic institutions to illustrate scientific method. It can be used with a Brookfield Circulating Bath for rapid sample temperature control which provides more accurate and repeatable results.
Model KF10 has a fixed angle of 80 degrees in accordance with the DIN 53015 and the Model KF20 provides variable angle settings for flexibility in testing a broader range of materials. Both models include a set of six balls, each with a separate viscosity measurement range and a temperature probe.

E-mail notices provide information on upcoming live events to members who log-in to listen and participate. Measure Your Materials Yield Value in a Snap! with Brookfield's Redesigned YR-1 Rheometer.
Middleboro, MA - Brookfield Engineering celebrates it's 75th Anniversary by introducing a new look for the increasingly popular YR-1 Rheometer, the low-cost instrument specifically designed to measure yield stress in fluids and semi-solids. Brookfield's revolutionary YR-1 Rheometer gives you the ability to measure your materials Yield Value in a snap! Simply select a test, lower the vane spindle into the product, press GO, and the instrument displays the result in a single shear stress number.
The simple-to-use YR-1 is a low-cost alternative to complicated, full-featured laboratory rheometers. It can be used by your technicians right on the production floor for rapid QC testing with excellent repeatability. The YR-1 is ideal for materials ranging from low to high viscosity, everything from juice with pulp to shortening. Typical applications include: greases, screen printing inks, creams and icings, polymers, and select personal care products.
The YR-1 comes with EZ-Yield software which allows for simple data collection on a PC. EZ-Yield allows you to set up 10 different test programs with an easy-to-use test parameter menu which can be downloaded and stored in the YR-1. Streaming data can be viewed in EZ-Yield and test data (torque vs. time and stress vs. strain) is displayed in both tabular and graphical formats.
The YR-1 Rheometer also comes with two Vane Spindles (V-72 and V-73) and a carrying case. Several additional vane spindles are also available.

Middleboro, MA - Brookfield is pleased to announce the acquisition of RheoTec Messtechnik GmbH of Dresden, Germany. Brookfield and RheoTec have been partners for the past 10 years in the sale of the R/S family of Rheometers. The growing synergy between the two companies has led to this recent acquisition as a natural conclusion to their successful partnership.
Through Brookfield's international dealer network, R/S Rheometers have become leading instruments in the rheology market providing both controlled stress and controlled rate measurement capabilities. New TexturePro CT Software from Brookfield, Powerful and Easy-to-Use!
Middleboro, MA - Brookfield Engineering Laboratories introduces TexturePro CT Software for the food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. It is designed specifically for use with Brookfield's new CT3 Texture Analyzer which connects directly to any USB port on your computer.
The new TexturePro CT v1.0 is powerful, yet simple to learn and easy-to-use. TexturePro CT allows users to collect data and perform detailed data analysis on test samples of various shapes and sizes with real time graphic plotting during the test. Custom reports and graphs are easily created right from the menu screen.
The sample identification set-up screen helps new operators quickly get started with test fields that outline a variety of parameters. The software features advanced data analysis with built-in parameter calculations such as springiness, chewiness, hardness and much more, helping new users select the best data analysis for their specific test.
New TexturePro CT also has an optional Secure Mode, which enables the operator to run new test methods, collecting and saving the data, while protecting existing test methods and data against change or deletion.
TexturePro CT can evaluate the mean and standard deviation of each test result parameter for up to 30 samples. The data and statistical analysis is then saved in true database file storage structure, minimizing space requirements and allowing for easy, logical file naming conventions. Data is easily exported to other computers or into Microsoft Excel format. The operator can also configure their own customized display.

New Powerful CT3 Texture Analyzer Features Both Compression and Tension!
Middleboro, MA - Brookfield Engineering introduces the New CT3 Texture Analyzer, the most powerful, lowest cost, stand-alone Texture Analyzer ever produced. This new generation instrument features not only the traditional Compression Mode, but now includes a brand new Tension Mode. Now manufacturers can test their products and the packaging as well. The large vertical work area of the CT3 is ideal for large sample placement. This also allows for increased travel distance maximizing the functionality of the new Tension Mode.
The CT3 offers load cells in 100g, 1,000g, 1,500g, 4,500g and 10kg. The 10kg load limit more than doubles the limit of it's predecessor, the LFRA Texture Analyzer. It also features a broader speed range for probe movement, a USB port for direct connection to a PC, and an optional temperature probe.
The CT3 Texture Analyzer features seven test modes. These Report Test Modes include: Normal Test, Hold Time Test, Cycle Count Test, Bloom Test, TPA Test, Tension Test and Static Load Calibrator Check.

Title 21 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) is the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's strategic initiative to modernize the regulation and control of electronic records and electronic signatures. The goal is to maintain the integrity of test data.
New Rheo3000 software lets your PC do the data collection and analysis work for you. Simply program shear stress or shear rate, temperature and test time requirements!
Rheo3000 Software provides visual information and test data on viscoelastic behavior such as viscous creep and recovery. Brookfield R/S Plus Rheometer has a new look…delivering form and function!
Middleboro, MA - Brookfield Engineering introduces the New R/S Plus Rheometer, complete with all the features Brookfield customers are familiar with, plus a brand new look. In addition to the modern styling of the instrument, the new R/S Plus features a smaller diameter spindle shaft, smaller size water jacket accessory and direct control of temperature from the keypad on P1 and P2 Cone Plate models.
The R/S Plus is designed for rheological evaluation of materials through the direct measurement of viscosity, yield stress, thixotropic response, creep and other flow properties. It features a temperature range up to 180C, speed range from 0.1 to 1,000 rpm, and measurement sensitivity delivering comprehensive data for modulus and static yield stress as well as information for creep testing.
The R/S Plus operates in both stand-alone mode as well as under PC control. The new R/S Plus running under Brookfield's Rheo3000 software provides powerful flow characterization tools including shear ramp, loop and single point testing.
The R/S Plus is available with cone/plate, plate/plate, or coaxial cylinder measurement geometries. It's engineered to meet the demands of quality control labs and to provide sophisticated flexibility for research environments as well as simple operation on the production floor.

Brookfield Sales Engineer David Moonay, Ph.D., awarded U.S. Patent
Middleboro, MA - Brookfield Sales Engineer and Rheology Lab Supervisor, David Moonay, Ph.D., has been awarded a U.S. patent for an algorithm he developed that provides "multi-decade viscometric or rheologic measurements of a material undergoing state change." According to Dr. Moonay, "This algorithm allows us to use Brookfield instruments to collect data on products that gel or cure over a much wider range of viscosity than ever before." Unfortunately, in the past, the only option for customers was to spend between $30,000 and $50,000 for a high-end rheometer.
Dr. Moonay developed this solution after talking with customers who complained that their gel timers couldn't get the viscosity data they needed. Now, Brookfield customers can monitor gelling over a wide viscosity range at a reasonable price. The "Cure Mode Test" is included in Brookfield Rheocalc Software (Version 3.0 and above), and can run on DV-II+Pro Viscometers, DV-III+ and DV-III Ultra Rheometers.
The Cure Mode Test is ideal for adhesives, advanced composites, polymers, and has possible applications in other food, chemical and petroleum products.

Brookfield Names Chiang Senior Sales Engineer
Middleboro, MA - Brookfield Engineering Laboratories is pleased to announce the appointment of Eric Chiang to the position of Senior Sales Engineer. Continuing expansion in Brookfield's worldwide business for viscosity measurement/control and texture analysis has necessitated this addition to staff at the U.S. headquarters. Eric's multilingual capability (Chinese, Malay, etc.) will be helpful to Brookfield's growing customer base in Asia.
Eric provides Brookfield customers with sales assistance and technical support for both the domestic and international markets. He also serves on the Brookfield Training team, teaching the Practical Course On Viscosity Measurements and the Applied Course On Viscosity Test Methods. These practical, hands-on courses are offered at Brookfield's facility in Middleboro, MA, and at major metropolitan areas across the U.S.A.
Most recently Eric held positions with Hexagon Holdings Berhad in Malaysia and Yokogawa Electric Corp. He has extensive experience in project engineering and instrumentation. Eric has been involved in the design/build of plants including both the installation & commission and maintenance & repair cycles.
Eric received an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of the District of Columbia and then completed his MBA at the University of Newcastle in Australia.

Vinny has been in the industry for more than 25 years with extensive experience in product testing, marketing, technical support and sales. He will provide Brookfield customers with product recommendations and sales assistance, technical support and training.
Vinny is also managing Brookfield's in-house and regional Educational Programs. On-Site Service Proves to Be Valuable Resource for Brookfield Customers
Middleboro, MA - Brookfield Engineering Laboratories' on-site service engineers have proven to be a valuable resource for many Brookfield customers. Throughout the past year, customer requests for on-site service have continued to increase at a rapid pace.
Brookfield customers request on-site service because they can't afford to stop production while their instruments are at Brookfield for repair. On-site service technicians go directly to the customer's facility and put their instruments in top running order without a major interruption in production schedules. In addition to performing all necessary repairs and adjustments, Brookfield technicians often provide valuable tips and techniques for taking good viscosity measurements.

New Texture Pro Lite Software from Brookfield…Now Quicker, Faster, and Better!
Middleboro, MA - Brookfield Engineering Laboratories has introduced a new version of TexturePro Lite Software for the Brookfield LFRA Texture Analyzer. TexturePro Lite software simplifies repetitive sample testing and provides immediate texture profiles for comparison and analysis.
This new version of TexturePro Lite includes enhanced data acquisition options providing much faster test times. Once test parameters are selected, the click of a mouse starts the test cycle; when the test is complete, you can save, plot, compare and print test data.
Additional new features of TexturePro Lite include: a results table with filename information for easy data identification, an enhanced tutorial providing a guide to test methodology, menu shortcut buttons that appear on the data graphs and the ability to precisely position cursors on data graphs.

Simple, Economical Viscosity Control for Printing Applications including Coatings, and Adhesives
Middleboro, MA - Brookfield Engineering, the world leader in viscosity measurement offers simple in-line viscosity control for industrial applications. The AST-100 is available with single and multi station controllers for applications including printing ink, coatings and adhesives.
The AST-300SY single station viscosity controller is designed for use with the Brookfield AST-100TSY system to control viscosity and temperature, interlock with other process devices, and accurately control fluid viscosity in a variety of applications.
The AST-300SY is a precise, programmable controller with timed closing intervals. Its intuitive screen layout allows for quick selection of setup and menu items. At a glance, set point and alarm status are displayed as are viscosity in cP, mPa.s, cSt or cup-seconds, and temperature in C or F. Additional features include:

It’s a matter of maintaining optimum coverage
A problem with ink film that’s too light is easily seen; but ink film that’s too heavy cannot be detected by the eye. Once mass-tone is achieved, ink film does not change as it becomes thicker. To the unaided eye the top of a .001" thick film will appear little different from a film of the same ink .0001" thick. Without sophisticated viscosity control it’s possible to waste a lot of expensive ink. The same is true of other coatings and adhesives as well.
Brookfield's AST-100 Automatic Viscosity Control maintains ink/coating/adhesive thickness at correct levels throughout the run.
This is an automatic control system that continuously senses viscosity, transmitting a signal when additional solvent is required, thus preventing wasteful material buildup.
Sensitive control is the key
Control of the slightest change in viscosity makes all the difference to successfully applying material - particularly in the low viscosity region of the thin inks currently in use. The Brookfield Ast-100 has a simple, rugged design that allows it to maintain accurate control at low viscosities.
